Moving through the second quarter!

Greetings Chargers, As we near halfway through the school year, the scholars have been participating in basketball. Each class has been working on skills such as shooting, passing and dribbling. It has been very rewarding to watch the scholars grow in their skill set. Moving forward, we will be moving into volleyball after winter break. The scholars will be learning the fundamentals of the game and different skills such as bumping, setting and serving. As always, I encourage your children to stay active especially going into winter break. Have a wonderful holiday season and Go Chargers! Best regards, Coach Gethings

Start of the second quarter!

Greetings Chargers!       Its hard to believe its already the second quarter! The scholars have been learning about the fundamentals of football. We have been working on proper trowing form (holding laces of the football and stepping into the throw). This will help build their fine motor skills and build confidence. We have started to talk about how their heart works and what happens to it when you exercise. In the upcoming month we will be moving onto basketball. The scholars will be learning how to properly shoot the ball, dribble and practice other skills of the game. Going forward in the year, you can expect to start hearing about athletic field day which is an exciting day for all! I look forward to continuing to teach your young scholars and Go Chargers! Best regards, Coach Gethings

End of the first quarter!

Greetings Chargers,            This has been a great start to the beginning of the year! As we come to the end of the first quarter there are many positive things taking place in P.E. The scholars are becoming familiar with classroom routines and procedures. They are also participating more and enjoying the activities! The classes are finishing up their jump rope sessions. I am finding many scholars who were not able to jump rope the first day are now able to! Going forward, we will be moving into football in the coming weeks. The scholars will be learning the fundamentals of football and how to use their bodies to run, pass and kick. I look forward to the coming weeks and seeing their progression. I hope everyone is enjoying the school year and Go Chargers! Best regards, Coach Gethings

Start of the new year!

Greetings Chargers!          It has been a great start to the new year! The students have been actively participating in non-traditional spacial awareness and locomotive games. The students have been learning about anatomy and classroom procedures. The next couple of weeks will include catching, trowing and hockey. We are going to be concentrating on positive interactions with others and showing good sportsmanship. I will be having Socratic discussions of different activities that they can do outside the classroom to stay healthy. We will also be discussing different food groups and food choices. Please see below for the PE curriculum that will be our base for the year. The activities and time of the year they take place are subject to change. I hope your child has been having a great year so far and Go Chargers! Best Regards, Coach Gethings   Skill/Unit Purpose Possible Activities Lesson ...

Welcome to the 2017 New Year!

Greetings Chargers, Welcome to P.E!  My name is Coach Gethings, I will be teaching K-2 P.E. this year. I am a certified Personal Trainer and EMT with numerous specialty certifications including nutrition and weight management. We will start the year by listening to the story of Slow Poke Joe and have a Socratic discussion. This story will teach students to persevere, help each other and create friendships. This week all students will be working on the locomotor skills using various movements of walking, skipping and running.  They will also be participating in relay races and spacial awareness drills including bean bag and hula hoop activities. Next week I will build onto the skills of the first week to include more movements. These skills will provide each student the foundation for the rest of the years P.E. activities.  Hope you and your family have a great year. Go Chargers! Best regards, Coach Gethings *Please be sure...
